Reconstructed Apple Pie

Updated: Feb 25, 2021

2 cans (21 oz) of GF apple pie filling

Cinnamon to taste

1 jar of caramel or to taste

1 box of yellow cake mix

16 tbsp of melted butter (however much it takes to cover the cake mix)

  1. Spray pyrex pan and pour both canned apple pie fillings evenly

  2. Sprinkle however much cinnamon you prefer and then pour caramel over pie filling

  3. Shake yellow cake mix evenly over entire pie filling and caramel

  4. Melt butter and pour it evenly over the cake mix

  5. Cook at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until golden brown on top

  6. Let it sit for a while to form and harden

This dessert is a 10/10! I threw vanilla ice cream and extra caramel on top, and it tasted just like an apple pie. I used Duncan Hines apple pie filling and I couldn’t tell it was even from a can. The apples were soft, the cinnamon came through nicely and the crust was buttery and bubbly. Technically, yes, it could be a cobbler, but I like thinking of it more as an apple pie to make myself feel included in the Thanksgiving pie category. This is a great dessert too for those who don’t prefer a bunch of crust. It’s a great balance of apple and crust taste. Let me know if you tried it and if you loved it as much as I did!
